Highlights of 2009
Another year has come to an end and we thought we would share some of our highlights of 2009.
We explored and were intrigued with the exhibits at the Bruce Museum, Neuberger Museum, Flinn Gallery and historical sites. The exhilarating drive into New York City to the MoMA, Museum of Modern Art, with a docent tour allowed us to view and discuss the incredible works of Matisse, Max Beckman and many more…how exciting and memorable. The Rosen House and Gardens at Caramoor offered a classical concert and tour. Afterwards, we had a relaxing picnic in the garden.
Shopping at some of our favorite stores for that perfect item and the excitement of finding a great sale. Lunch Bunch acquainted themselves with delicious meals and great accommodations at several local restaurants feeling as if we couldn’t eat another bite...but we did. Frequenting Gofer’s homemade ice cream is a favorite outing that would satisfy anyone’s pallet.
Summer was filled with warm sunny days and cool lemonade. Strolls in our garden, beautiful flowers, birds singing and the tranquility of a familiar place. Summer days brought daily walks and picnics at one of our favorite spots, Pepsico Gardens. Todd’s Point, Rye Beach and sailing the seas on the Island Beach Ferry are outings we can’t get enough of and for many residents brings wonderful memories of their youth.
We all agree The Westchester Broadway Theater is the best! Our luxury box seats are comfortable and private. The shows are incredible, talent impressive and entrees and desserts delectable. This year we saw the amazing Cirque La Masque and Funny Girl.
The Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville, N.Y. offers unique documentaries for seniors and it was definitely a treat to meet some of the members of The Westchesteraires Barbershop Quartet. We also saw some comedy and dramatic films at the Port Chester Loews Theater.
Fall had a great jumpstart with our Open House triggering Assisted Living Week. It was a beautiful day and we had a great turnout from family and friends. All were impressed with the residents paintings and jewelry and the residents beamed with pride.
Pumpkin picking at Augustine’s Farm and decorating is a yearly tradition, as well as, drives to gaze at the beautiful foliage. We were honored to receive and invitation to the Fall Homecoming Luncheon and Service at Christ Church in Greenwich followed by entertainment with the Grace Notes. For our spiritual nurturing we are so grateful to have The Greenwich Chaplaincy provide weekly worship services and our professional and personal connections with Jewish Family Services.
December brings the hustle and bustle of the holidays, decorating the tree, preparing traditional foods and of course tickets to The Nutcracker. An extravagant Christmas Buffet will be prepared for family and friends. And we won’t forget to visit the Hyatt to see their twinkling holiday display and taste their delicious desserts.
An extraordinary visit from Ernest Hemingway presented by Richard Clark brought us back in time.
Our in-house programs keep us busy too: fitness class, music programs, crossword puzzles, trivia, bingo, art, flower arranging and dog visits are just a few...check our monthly newsletter calendar.
A special Thank You goes out to all the dedicated vendors and visitors for providing enjoyable and stimulating programs and entertainment...you are all considered family members of The Greens!
